Abstract

1397226 Yarn heater DIENES HONEYWELL GmbH 15 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972 8 Oct 1973 (2)] 52970/73 Heading D1F Apparatus for heating yarn 10 comprises a holow vessel 1 which in use contains a heating medium, and a bar 2 having a channel 3 for guiding the yarn to be heated, the bar 2 being in engagement with the vessel to transfer heat from the medium to the yarn and being removably attached to the vessel. In a first embodiment the vessel 1 is U-shaped in crosssection and encompasses the bar 2 on three sides. The open-side of the U-shaped vessel is almost closed, except for a threading-up slot 6, by insulating plates 7. The bar 2 is pressed against the vessel 1 by springs 5 between the bar 2 and the plates 7. In a further embodiment, the vessel 1 encloses the bar 2 on four sides. In a funthe embodiment (Figure 3) the vessel 21 is in the form of a closed tube and is received in a correspondingly shaped recess 23 in the bar 22, the recess 23 being on the side of the bar remote from the channel 3. In a still further embodiment, the bar is wedgeshaped and received in a trough-shaped vessel and being fixed therein by screws. In this embodiment, the bar is provided. with two yarn guiding channels. In a further embodiment (Figure 7), the vessel comprises a doublewalled tube 54, 55 with heating medium 62 contained therein. The bar 52 is recived in the iner wall 54 and is provided with a crosssection. which increases from the ends towards the middle of the bar, the cross-section at the centre of the bar is greater than half the crosssection of the tube 54. The bar is of heat conducting material e.g. copper, aluminium or steel; and the heating medium is preferably liquid and its vapour, electric heating means being provided in the liquid.
