Abstract

1,215,029. Finishing yams. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. 26 Aug., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 40753/68. Heading D1F. Apparatus for heat-treating running yarns, e.g. setting twist in a twist- (or false-twist) crimping process, comprises an insulated, elongate, contact body 1 in which are embedded separate elements 2, 3, or rods each heated by an independently controllable electric resistance coil located therewithin to provide preheating and the main heating respectively for the yarn (s) travelling along (a) groove(s) 6 in the body surface. In order to ensure a temperature drop between the preheating and heating zones without interrupting the yarn travel, elements 2, 3, are separated by a thermal resistance as may be provided by one or more out-out portions, as at 7, of rectangular or circular cross-section extending across the body; by a core or plug (not shown) of material, e.g. foamed glass, ceramic, asbestos, of low thermal conductivity relative to that of the body; by reducing the heated length of the elements 2, 3, at the opposite ends thereof to form an unheated zone; by reducing the heat-conducting cross-section of the body. Tapered projections, as at 8, comprise bores for the reception of temperature measuring probes.
