Abstract

1,126,624. Crimping and heating yarns. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 1 Sept., 1965 [19 Sept., 1964], No. 38338/64. Headings DID and D1F. In a machine for treating e.g. false-twist crimping, running yarns, laterally spaced apart along the length of the machine, heating apparatus provides an elongated heating zone 11 and guides spaced apart lengthwise and on either side thereof direct the yarns from one side of the zone to the other in elongate paths 12 extending both lengthwise and transversely. The paths may be U- or V-shaped or zig-zag, lie on a curved e.g. cylindrical, surface as in a helix, and/or in the same plane or a series of parallel planes, and/or in parallel or overlapping relationship. The paths may be defined on, or by grooves in. the surface 19 of a single elongate member 17 heated electrically or by hot fluid such as oil with automatic temperature control. Thermal expansion and contraction of the apparatus are accommodated by roller mountings as at 16.
