Abstract

1,267,231. Friction false-twisting yarn. COURTAULDS Ltd. 15 July, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 33769/69. Heading D1F. A yarn drawing machine comprises a feed roller and a draw roller 10 for drawing yarn 2 passing between them, a separator roller 11 associated with the draw roller 10 for spacing the turns of yarn on the draw roller, the separator roller 11 having a flange 13 with a peripheral surface 14 for frictionally contacting the yarn as it passes initially onto the separator roller so as to false twist the yarn, and means for heating the yarn in the region before it passes to the flange of the separator roller. The separator roller 11 may be driven or idling, and the flange 13 is preferably made of hard rubber. A snubbing pin may be provided between the feed and draw roller to limit the twist back-up. The heater may be a heated plate, steam, electrical heater or an infra-red heater. The snubbing pin may be the heater or a heater may be placed extending along the path of the yarn between the snubbing pin and the draw roller. The yarn is preferably wound by means of a ring twister.
