Abstract

1,020,980. Crimping yarn. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N. V. Jan. 22,1965 [Jan. 25,1964], No. 2873/65. Heading DlF. A stuffer box, which has a pair of adjacent rotatable discs for feeding a yarn, thread, or sliver into the box, is formed by two fixedly mounted plates 3, 4 which enclose the ends of the discs near their nip, each plate being provided with a central recess 9 extending in the longitudinal direction, and one or both plates being provided with one or more auxiliary recesses 6, extending in the longitudinal direction, on either side of recess 9 to reduce the tendency of the crimped yarn etc. to leave the box sideways. Recesses 9 start at a point located 2-3 mm downstream of the nip of the discs. The yarn may pass to the discs through a heated capillary tube. Plates 9 may be heated and/or cooled, the heated and cooled parts being separated by insulation or by a thin plate portion. A door is hinged to the end of plate 3 and is spring pressed against plate 4.
