Abstract

1,270,819. Spooling optical filaments. OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO. Ltd. 7 May, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 23303/69. Heading B8G. [Also in Divisions D1 and G2] An elongated fibre optical element 1 is fed to a rotating drum 2 by a traverse guide 3 which lags behind the point at which the element makes contact with the drum in order to ensure that adjacent turns of the resultant coil are in contact. An elastic idler roll 17 presses the element against the drum, and, if arranged with its axis skew to the drum axis as in Fig. 4, pushes the turns of the coil together. The starting end la of the element is bonded to the drum and a fibre optical device is produced by bonding the turns together along an axial line and cutting the element within the bonded portion.
