An upset curling device for use with small denier filament bundles, comprising a member forming a crimping and clamping chamber, a pair of feed rollers having end surfaces and forming a gripping distance arranged to feed a filament yarn at one end of said chamber, to be folded and curled therein, against a core of previously curled yarn, said crimping chamber including a saddle that saves the gripping distance of said feed rollers and which has flanks that they extend on their end surfaces, and a reciprocating guide intended to move the thread transversely, laterally with respect to the gripping distance of said rollers as it is fed to them for crimping, said reciprocating guide having a related stroke with the width of these feed rollers, to provide a minimum clearance of 1.27 mm between the filaments in the extr emos of the stroke and the corresponding ends of the feed rollers in the gripping distance.
