Abstract

1,155,141. Artificial filaments. ACSAAPPLICAZIONI CHIMICHE S.p.A. 29 July, 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 34286/66. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] A filament 1 of polyacrylonitrile is stretched by 1À1-2À0 x its original length while it passes in contact with a heated channelled roller 5, so as to produce along the length of the filament alternate stretched and unstretched portions, the relative lengths of which, and the degree of stretch being such that when the filament is cut into staple lengths, substantially all such lengths will include a portion A<SP>1</SP> of high heatshrinkability and a portion B<SP>1</SP> of low heatshrinkability. The roller 5 may have channels of varying widths and/or separation, and may be heated between 60-200‹ C. The lengths A<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>1</SP> may be between 15-100 mm. The staplefibres produced are used in making yarns of high bulk (see Division D1).
