Abstract
941,679. Synthetic filaments having projections. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 20872/61. Heading B5B. A textile filament of synthetic material comprises a main trunk and integral therewith, projections extending from the main trunk at regular or irregular intervals therealong. The projections may be short, sharp-edged and stubby, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, or they may be hair-like, as shown in Figs. 3 to 6 of the drawings. They may be disposed at right angles to the trunk of the filament, somewhat as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 of the drawings, or may make an angle less than a right-angle with the trunk, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings. The projections, if hair-like, may themselves be branched, as shown in Fig. 6. The hair-like projections may point in opposite directions with regard to the length of the filament, giving the yarn a matt-like appearance. The filaments may be formed as described in Specifications 924,517 and 927,052.
