Abstract

1,098,135. Crimping and heating yarns. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. May 25, 1965 [May 27, 1964], No. 21932/64. Heading D1F. In a false-twist crimping apparatus, a plurality of synthetic yarns is heated by oblique travel across and in contact with the surface of a heater comprising hollow bodies interconnected at their ends to form a closed circuit for a hot liquid circulated therethrough at high velocity and with turbulent flow such that the same temperature is maintained throughout the bodies. Electrical heating and/ or control elements are disposed within the bodies and in the flow path. The heater shown in Fig. 3 is formed by lagged passages 13, 14, each having an exposed, convex, smooth or grooved yarn-engaging surface, and lagged connecting passages 15, 16, to which an overhead expansion vessel 17 for heating-oil is connected. An axial flow pump 19 is driven through flexible coupling 23 by an induction motor 21 and electrical heating elements 27, 28, are connected and disconnected from a supply by control means 29 operated by a temperature-responsive element 30. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown) one or more elements 27 supply the major portion of the heat requirements and a further element or elements 28 supplies the minor part thereof, and the latter element(s) only need be controlled by means 29. If the total length of each passage is required to be more than say ten feet, then the heater may be assembled from sections each provided with inward extensions which form baffles within the passage.
