Abstract

1,166,244. Yarn contact heater. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 20 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 9040/66. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] A yarn heater comprises a chamber 12 bounded on one side by a heat conductive member 14 against the outer surface of which, 14a, a yarn runs in contact and over the inner surface of which a heated fluid 13 circulates parallel to the direction of yarn travel. The fluid is heated by an electric resistance element (17, 17<SP>1</SP>) positioned at one end of the chamber or extending the length of the chamber parallel to the yarn path. Temperature sensitive means 22 are provided in the chamber to control the energy supplied to the element. The fluid, which may be oil, is circulated by convection, optionally aided by a fan, and a baffle may guide the circulating fluid. The yarns run in grooves or channels (14a, 15) formed in the heat conductive member. The heater may be used in a falsetwist crimping machine and may be arranged so that the yarn path through the heater is vertical, or is inclined to the vertical to reduce the height of the yarn heater needed.
