Abstract
1419473 Heating and cooling yarns ELITEX-ZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI GENERALNI REDITELSTVI 7 Feb 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 05620/74 Heading D1F In a method of heating a running continuous synthetic filament or yarn e.g. in a false-twist crimping machine, the filament passes in a linear or arcuate path axially through a well, in and extending the length of a heated block, from opposite walls of which 0.6 mm or less spent heat is transferred by conduction and radiation and convectively by fluid preheated in the well and flowing transversely to the direction of filament passage at a maximal speed of 3m per second where it contacts the filament, the temperature of the walls and the fluid being maintained below the melting point of the filament. The filament is oscillated as by means of driven cams or guides near the entry to and exit from the well, Fig. 1 (not shown). Fluid flow may be generated by injection into or withdrawal from the well of fluid e.g. ambient air. As shown, a block 2, within a housing 6 and heat insulation 5, comprises heat conductive e.g. metal, slats 10, 11, forming therebetween a well 3 having at least an operative part flattened as at A, a collecting space B from which fluid is withdrawn (together with waste products of the heat treatment) and an inlet space C which facilitates introduction of the filament and into which hot fluid is drawn or injected through pipe 9. A, B and C interconnect along at least part of their length, continuously or by spaced passages. The walls are hard chrome layered as at 13. One or two or a series of several pairs of wells may be formed in a recess between two slats (or by an inlet therebetween) removably. connected into the block or one or more slats may be arranged symmetrically in the recess of the other slat. Inclined grooves may guide fluid and waste into space C. The device may be used for cooling the yarns.
