Abstract

849,607. Yarn heating arrangement. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. Aug. 19, 1958, No. 26568/58. Classes 120(2) and 120(3). A heater for continually heating a travelling thermoplastic yarn having means, e.g., an electric element or oil, to heat a plate 1 located in and forming part of a passage 3 through the heater, the yarn passing through the passage being so located that air is drawn through it upwardly by convection, is characterized in that the passage 3 has a minimum cross-sectional area at or near its centre, the sides thereof being curved or tapered so as to produce a maximum rate of flow of air at or near its centre. The heater plate 1 is surrounded by insulating material 4 and its surface is preferably provided with one or more channels 2 for guiding the yarn(s). The heater has a cover 5 the inner surface of which forms part of the surface of the air passage. In a modification, the heater is formed from two heat-insulated portions, the longitudinally-convex heater plate being carried in a passage in one portion. Specification 788,526 is referred to.
