Abstract

A textile e.g. filament, yarn, sliver is heat treated (e.g. dried) by passage along a linear path through a duct which undulates. The separation of the troughs or peaks of the undulations are several centimetres. A heated fluid (gas) is passed through the duct in the same or opposite direction as the advance direction of the textile, so that the undulations cause the heated fluid to flow over the textile at an angle. By ensuring the heated fluid impinges on the textile at an angle the efficiency of the heating of the textile is improved.
