Abstract
1275270 Filament heating apparatus TEIJIN Ltd 16 July 1969 [23 July 1968] 35915/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] Heating apparatus, particularly for heatdrawing or heat-setting synthetic filaments, comprises a pair of opposed heating plates 1, 2 having grooves 3, 3<SP>1</SP> on their inner surfaces to define an elongated slit, when the plates are positioned against one another, for the passage of filaments 5 through the apparatus, a plurality of buffer plates 4 being positioned along the groove in one or both heating plates and extending perpendicularly thereto and transversely of the slit, whereby air is prevented from being drawn into the slit from outside by the travelling filaments and the temperature tranversely of the slit is kept uniform. The buffer plates 4 may be mounted at equal or irregular intervals and are staggered with respect to those on the opposite heating plate, the space between opposed sets of buffer plates being sufficient to allow filaments to pass without contacting the buffer plates. Various shapes of buffer plate are described. The heating plates 1, 2 may be heated by electrical resistance elements 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, or by a heating fluid, e.g. steam. In an example, polyethylene terephthalate filaments are heated with the apparatus.
