Abstract

1394934 Heating Yarns; cleaning machines ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS LTD 17 Jan 1974 [27 Jan 1973] 4303/73 Heading D1F A yarn heater, as may be used to set twist in yarn(s) being false-twist crimped, comprises at one or each end of the part which provides a heating zone for the running yarn(s) an extension forming a housing for fume removal means. As shown, yarns 10 travel along grooves 11 in a heated plate 12 located in a channel provided by a casing 14 which encloses heating means such as electrical elements (not shown). The casing is formed into an integral extension 15 of similar cross-section and housing a suction chamber 17 the front wall 21 of which together with side walls 22 form an open channel for the yarns. Fumes emitted from the yarns are drawn through a slot 23 (or a row of holes or slots) into chamber 17 and withdrawn therefrom by suction (for disposal) through an exhaust pipe 24. Wall 21 is provided with condensate drainhole(s) as at 25 and ledge(s) or trap(s) as at 26. The suction may induce a flow of cooling air across the yarn.
