Abstract

958,362. Tumbler driers. FIRTH CLEVELAND Ltd. April 27, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 50884/63. Divided out of 958,361. Heading F4G. In a tumbler drier a flow of heated air is directed substantially tangentially towards the drum 7 for entry through perforations 8 therein by a blower 10 comprising a rotor 11 extending substantially the length of the drum having blades 12 extending parallel to the rotor axis and co-operating guide walls 13, 14 extending the length of the rotor to induce a flow of air from the suction side 20 of the rotor through the path of the rotating blades 12 into the interior of the rotor and thence again through the path of the blades to the pressure side 21 of the rotor. The guide walls and rotor produce a vortex having a core V which is eccentric to the rotor axis and penetrates the path of the blades adjacent the main guide portion 16'of the wall 13. The guide walls form a duct 22 to direct the air towards a fluid heated heat exchanger 23 in the duct and to the drum. Specification 876,611 also is referred to.
