1379193 Heating and texturing yarns HEBERLEIN & CO AG 12 Feb 1973 [3 March 1972] 6729/73 Heading D1F Apparatus for heating continuously running yarn, e.g. to set twist imparted by false-twisting or polying in a texturing operation, comprises. at least one non-rotatably mounted cylindrical heating member of which at least a portion is of rounded section and at least one peripheral groove in the surface of such portion providing a continuous path for the yarn and extending around the member at least once and generally perpendicularly.to the longitudinal axis thereof. The heater shown comprises a diecast aluminium heating ring 1 which has a helical groove 4 therein, flat faces covered by discs 2 of heatinsulating material and is rigidly connected to another ring 3. Groove 4 may be coated with a hard material, e.g. chrome or a ceramic, and polished. An annular 'channel 6, in the ring houses an electric heating coil 7 and a metal rod 8 and recesses 9 improve heat insulation. Two adjacent rings as at 1 may be arranged between discs 2, or one ring may have two spaced grooves therein, to enable simultaneous treatments of two yarns and monitoring thereof at the one station with a single temperature measuring and regulating probe. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the ring has two parallel annular grooves as at 4 and a communicating groove enabling yarn to pass uninterruptedly therebetween. A single cylindrical heating element, e.g. of aluminium, copper, brass or chrome-nickel steel, through which a channel extends axially and receives a fluid medium, e.g. air, steam or oil, circulating through an external (heating) vessel, may serve several stations.
