Abstract

1339251 Crimping and heating yarns E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 25 May 1972 [22 June 1971] 24764/72 Heading DIF A yarn heater 10 or 10" comprises two coiled lengths 14 or 14" and 16 or 16" of electrical resistance wire interconnected by a reversing loop 12 or 12", coaxial with a projected yarn path 18 or 18" defined by spaced supports or guides and energised by an electrical supply at 20 or 26". The coiled lengths have the same number of coils of the same dimensions and may be in the form of a double stranded helix of similar hand or an inverted helix of opposite hand and heat successive portions of yarn diverted by a roller 22. The inner diameter of the coils provides a passage at least as large as the effective diameter of the yarn and adjacent coils are so spaced as to allow entry of the yarn during string-up from a position external of the coil and parallel to the axis thereof and effected without threading a free end of yarn axially through the coils. A twist-crimping operation may be effected on a modified draw-twister (or draw-winder, up-twister or down-twister) using the heater to set twist in the yarn, Fig. 4 (not shown), which is false-twisted (and also vibrated within the heater) by a torque jet.
