Abstract
1373778 Bulk yarn TEIJIN Ltd and TEIJIN MODERN YARN CO Ltd 17 Dec 1971 [19 Dec 1970] 58645/71 Heading DIF A method of producing a bulk yarn having controlled residual torque comprises subjecting a thermoplastic synthetic filament yarn to the steps of twisting, heat-setting on a first heater, and untwisting, and either continuously or not feeding the yarn into a second heater while rotating it by means of a fluid nozzel and reheat-setting the yarn in the second heater, the yarn being maintained in a substantially relaxed state e.g. tension less than 0.07 gm/ denier, during the rotation by the fluid nozzle and the reheat-setting by the second heater. In a preferred embodiment, a filament yarn 2, e.g. polyamide, polyester, acrylic, acetate, is withdrawn from a bobbin 1 and passed through heater 4, which may be a curved contact heater, and fed to a false twist spindle 5. The false-twisted yarn is then fed through a heater 7 to a fluid twisting nozzle 8 and is wound on a package 11. The fluid twisting nozzle 8 is preferably of the type directing a pressurised fluid, e.g. air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, steam, at right angles to the yarn path and tangential to the yarn axis. The second heater 7 is preferably of a type providing contact only at the inlet and outlet thereto, e.g. a pipe heater, with or without an axially extending slit. The fluid nozzle 8 may twist the yarn in the same direction as the false-twist spindle 5 or in the opposite direction depending on the result to be achieved. At a critical point, a non-torque yarn is produced. Many examples are given in which combinations of parameters are varied. The parameters involved are, the temperatures of the first and second heaters; type of second heater; number and direction of false-twists; direction of fluid nozzle twisting; fluid used; angles at which yarn enters and leaves fluid twister; distances between second heater and fluid nozzle, and between fluid nozzle and take-off means; Reynold's number of the fluid; overfeed rates of yarn to spindle 5 and fluid nozzle 8; speed of yarn; and type of yarn.
