Abstract
828,641. Spinning and finishing yarns. COURTAULDS Ltd. May 6, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 14457/57. Class 120(3) A "mock-boucle yarn" is produced by feeding at least two bundles of continuous filaments (which may be twisted one turn per inch) into a zone of turbulent gaseous fluid, at least one of the bundles being "overfed" at a linear rate at least 75% greater than another bundle, withdrawing all the bundles from the zone as a single assembly and at a rate less than the rate of feed of any bundle to the zone, and twisting the assembly. The filaments of the bundles become looped and convoluted and the overfed bundle(s) is/are contracted around and entangled with the other bundle(s). Yarn having neps at regular or irregular intervals is obtained by varying the relative degree of overfeed. The filaments may be of polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate or triacetate, or regenerated cellulose: filaments fed at the slower rate may be of varying denier along their length and/or may be shrinkable relative to the other filaments so that heat treatment of the yarn will enhance the bulking effect. A yarn e.g. a temporary "scaffolding" thread, may be incorporated in the bundles emerging from the zone and intertwisted therewith. As shown in Fig. 1 (Prov.), bundles 1 and 5 pass through tension devices 3, 7, to and around godets 4, 8, rotating independently and, optionally, at different speeds or on a common shaft, Fig. 2 (not. shown) and are combined before entering a bulking jet 9 from which they emerge as a bundle 15 which is wound around a godet 10, where it may be joined by a yarn 12, and the assembly twisted on a cap or ring spinning device 11. The bundles on leaving godets 4 and 8 may pass over guides which oscillate to vary the feed rates. The jet 9 comprises a body portion 40 providing a yarn exit passage 45 leading to a conical portion 46 and a compressed air inlet 43: portion 40 houses a conically tipped yarn inlet member 47 providing passages 52, 53, 54: portions 40 and 47 are adjustably secured at their flanges 41 and 48. Specification 732,929 is referred to.
