Abstract
1426876 Spinning yarns IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 25 May 1973 [5 June 1972] 26135/72 Headings D1F and D1W Composite slub yarn is produced by supplying a first core yarn to a turbulence chamber under conditions of zero overfeed so that no bulk is imparted to the yarn and injecting a second effect yarn under conditions of (positive) overfeed e.g. 60-120%, by the action of a fluid jet (the fluid being permitted to exhaust from yarn inlet and exit passages of the chamber) forwarding the resultant yarn through an intermingling jet and finally winding. In the chamber, the effect yarn becomes looped and entangled and, at random intervals, attached in the form of balls to the core yarn: in the intermingling jet the effect yarn is locked into the core yarn. The slub effect e.g. the length and distribution of the slubs, may vary according to the angle between the yarn emerging from the intermingling jet and the axis of the yarn passageway therein and/or the angle between the axes of the intermingler and chamber yarn passageways which latter is such as to allow some fluid exhausting from the intermingler to enter the outlet passageway of the chamber. The core and/or effect yarns may be bulked, staple or continuous filament of cellulose acetate, acrylics, polyamide, rayon, cotton or wool. In the apparatus shown, yarn 1 drawn from package 2 passes through guide 3, optionally feed rolls 15, 16, into a turbulent chamber 4 and through stepped inlet and exit yarn passageways 5 and 6 thereof. Inlet 5 may be cylindrical, conical or of square cross-section, baffled or unbaffled, open or restricted at the entrance. Effect yarn 11 from package 12 passes through a guide 13, optionally feed rolls (not shown), an air disperser 14 and into chamber 4. Combined yarn passes through an intermingler 8, around a free-running roller 9, optionally through a steam heater 17, through a guide 10 to wind-up.
