Abstract
1376842 Gas discharge lamps VARIAN ASSOCIATES 25 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1971] 3468/72 Heading H1D An arc gas discharge lamp comprises a base 10 and an optical window 18 separated by a ceramic cylinder 11, an anode 70 adjacent the base and a cathode 32 adjacent the window and a reflector 33 within the lamp and supported at the window side of the arc gap. Suitable materials are: for the base 10, steel; for the sleeve 11 alumina and for the window sapphire. The various annular mounting members for the window 18 can be of Kovar (Registered Trade Mark). A heat radiation assembly can be attached to the base 10, see Fig. 3 (not shown). A typical filling is xenon at 25 atmospheres and the electrode spacing is about 2 cm.
