Abstract

1440025 Gas discharge lamps PATENTTREUHAND - GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 13 June 1973 [16 June 1972] 28209/73 Heading H1D In a low-pressure, mercury vapour fluorescent discharge lamp, an amalgam or amalgamating metal 11 which determines the running pressure in the lamp is supported on a component 6 at a distance from an electrode 5 not exceeding half the diameter of the lamp envelope and a heat insulating layer 9 is provided between the electrode and the amalgam or amalgamating metal. Suitable insulating materials are aluminosilicate, alumina, magnesia or zirconia ceramics, zeolites, lime or alkali metal aluminosilicates, alumina paper or carbon felt. A starting amalgam 12 may be provided on the inside of component 6. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the component 6 is a complete ring around the electrode and the insulating material and amalgam are provided on an outward projection (15, 16). The amalgamating metal can be indium or cadmium.
