Abstract

1368826 Yarns SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 5 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 36863/71 Headings D1F and D1W To make a staple fibre yarn, a drafted sliver is twisted in a relaxation zone and simultaneously the fibres are joined together at points spaced apart by a distance less than the mean staple fibre length. As shown, drafted sliver F, overfed between rolls 2 and 3, is twisted by pneumatic twister 5 and regularly pinched by ribs 93 of rotating rolls 91, 92. Adhesive, applied to the ribs of roller 91 by belt 21, or by a roller, wets the pinch points. The ribs may intermesh, or one roller may be smooth. The twister may be connected to a vacuum source, or may be a mechanical twister. Powdered adhesive may be mixed with drafted fibres M and activated by an activator applied by the ribs to the pinch points, or adhesive may be supplied with fibres M and activated by heated ribs at the pinch points. The bonded sliver parts may be dried by hot air passed through twister 5, or by a heated roll which may replace rolls 3. The twisted sliver may be drafted. After further yarn processing, e.g. weaving, the adhesive may be dissolved from the yarn. Synthetic fibres, possibly mixed with natural fibres, or a synthetic filament forwarded with the fibres, may be bonded at the pinch points, without adhesive, by the heated ribs.
