Abstract
A yarn is withdrawn from the spinning rotor of an open end spinning machine by delivery rolls and fed through a false twist device (e.g. a false twist bush) to a pair of draw rolls operating at a faster speed than the delivery rolls. The false twist device operates in a direction which slightly untwists the yarn allowing it to be drawn and a drive mechanism controls the relative speeds of the delivery and draw rolls to achieve the required draw for a particular type of yarn. Pref. the false twist bush has removable inserts of different friction coefficients to control the false twist applied to the yarn. Drawing the yarn re-orientates the fibres, thereby increasing the strength of the yarn.
