Abstract

1365045 Collapsible containers PINCKNEY MOLDED PLASTICS Inc 30 May 1973 [5 June 1972] 25870/73 Heading B8P A collapsible container comprises a rectangular bottom wall 12, a top rectangular border frame 15, two opposed vertical end walls 16 hinged to the border frame 15 so that they may be pivoted inwardly into a horizontal position, and two opposed vertical side walls 18 hinged to the frame 15 and the bottom wall 12, each side wall 18 being divided into upper and lower sections 60, 61 by a horizontal hinge so that the side walls may be pushed inwards. The container is moulded from plastics material, the end walls 16 being formed integrally with the border frame 15. As shown in Fig. 6, the frame 15 is of U-shaped cross-section and the end wall 16 is integrally hinged to the frame by a web 50. In erecting the container, the bottom edge of each wall 16 is pushed over stops 32. Accidental collapsing of the container is prevented by projections 52 on the end wall 16 which engage slots 30 in a peripherial flange 22 of the bottom wall 12. As shown in Fig. 7, the upper section 60 of each side wall is hinged by a web 68 to a channel shaped locking member 64. Each side arm 40 of the frame 15 is pushed into a locking member 64 so that projections 46 on the arm 40 engage slots 80 on the member 64. Pins 82 spaced along the base of channel-shaped member 64 ensure that unintentional disengagement does not occur. The lower section 61 of each side wall is hinged by a web to a locking member carrying keys 90 which are pushed into a channel 24 in the bottom wall 12. Projections 92 on the keys 90 engage slots 28 in the channel 24. The U-shaped frame 15 carries reinforcing wire 81, 83. The container may be stacked in the collapsed or erected position.
