Abstract

1483083 Collapsible trays PINCKNEY MOLDED PLASTICS Inc 10 Sept 1974 [11 Oct 1973] 39533/74 Heading B8P A container, e.g. a baker's tray, capable of being converted to a pallet, comprises a bottom wall 10 and side walls 12, 14 pivoted at the edges of the bottom wall and provided with means for releasably holding the side walls upright relative to the bottom wall; the container being converted to a pallet by swinging the side walls inwardly to positions overlying the bottom wall. As shown the bottom wall has a central cellular portion 26 surrounded by a peripheral portion 28 provided with various raised portions (e.g. parts 32), and the walls 12, 14 are formed with apertures (e.g. 68) corresponding to the various raised portions on the peripheral portion of the bottom wall, such that the side walls may be pivoted over to lay flat on the bottom wall 10 with the upper surfaces of the side walls flush with or lower than the upper edges of the various parts of the bottom wall, e.g. of projections 32, lattice 26, &c. The side walls are secured to each other at the corners by an extension (80, 82, Fig. 3, not shown) attached to side walls 14 which slides in an arcuate slot 60 in walls 12 for pivoting of the sides relative to the bottom wall. Containers with their sides raised may be stacked by means of ledge 18 surrounding the lower periphery of the container, which ledge will rest upon the upper edges of walls 12, 14 when stacked upon a like container.
