A stackable container of moulded expanded plastics, such as foamed polystyrene, is provided with inwardly directed flanges 7 at upper edges of side walls 1 and reinforcing fillets 5 and 8 at the internal corners of the base 2 and side walls and of the flanges and side walls to resist buckling of the side walls when a plurality of like containers are stacked. As shown, two opposed side walls are provided with said flanges which are grooved at 9 to receive a sliding lid 6. In a similar embodiment, Fig. 11 (not shown), a third wall is provided with an inwardly directed flange. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the grooves are omitted and a flat lid may be provided. In further embodiments, Figs. 5, 8, 9 and 10 (not shown), the edges of the flanges, which may extend along two side walls or around all four walls, are outwardly chamfered to receive a drop-on lid 6 having corresponding chamfered edges 16. Where the flanges are provided only on the two opposed walls, projecting lugs 18 on the edges of the lid locate in recesses 17 formed in the flanges, Fig. 9. Drain holes 13, Figs. 7 and 11 (not shown), may be provided. The containers are moulded using moulding equipment comprising components 11 and 12, component 11 being profiled to form the flange and fillets of the side walls, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). When pairs of containers are stacked, Fig. 12 (not shown), the strengthened flanges and bottom corners form a composited strengthening beam in the stack.
