A set of boxes e.g. of plastic which may be nested or stacked comprises a number of rectangular boxes 1-3 of different sizes, and each box, except the largest, has its length equal to the width of the next largest box; the walls of each box slope outwardly from the base and have fins therein extending the full box height, bearing surfaces being provided on the tops of the side walls, at least some of which are formed by the upper ends of the fins. The bearing surface or surfaces on one side wall are staggered with respect to such surfaces on the opposite side whereby, in the nested position the fins of one box are received in recesses of the adjacent box, and by turning each box through 180 degrees relative the adjacent one the boxes can be stacked, the corners on one side of a box and the middle portion on the opposite side being supported on the bearing surfaces of the next lower box. The largest box, Fig. 3, may have bearing surfaces 11-16 provided by the tops of fins and since the box wall thickness is substantially constant the walls are correspondingly recessed on the outside to facilitate nesting, the smaller boxes have a single wide bearing surface on one side and two narrower ones adjacent the corners on the other. Abutments may be formed at each bearing surface to prevent lateral movement of stacked boxes.
