Abstract
1,265,072. Stackable containers. FRITZ SCHAFER G.m.b.H. 4 June, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 28211/69. Heading B8P. A stackable open-topped container, Fig. 1, with vertical surfaces 9, 10, 11 and horizontal surfaces 6, 7, 8 for locating and supporting a like container, has upwardly projecting ribs 14, 15 spaced from the horizontal surfaces and formed on opposed sides 2, 3 which locate in grooves 17, 18 formed in the base 1 of a like container during stacking. In the display container as shown the ribs 14, 15 and grooves 16, 17 terminate a discrete distance from the back of the container to avoid relative longitudinal movement between containers when stacked. The height of the ribs 14, 15 is less than the height of the vertical locating surfaces 9, 10, 11 to allow flat-bottomed containers of similar size to be supported by the container, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification, a container which is also nestable in a like container when inserted in a position rotated 180 degrees from the first position, Fig. 5, has four channels 28-31 formed in two opposed sides 24, 25, 28 being offset laterally to 30, likewise 29 and 31. The channels 28-31 have formed at their top edges vertical locating and horizontal supporting surfaces 32 and ribs 33, which locate in grooves (34), Fig. 6 (not shown), formed in the base 23 of a like container during stacking, the grooves on one side of the container being directly opposed to the corresponding ribs on the opposite side. The container may be of a plastics material.
