Stacking of egg boxes moulded from resilient thermoplastic sheet material with top and bottom halves 10, 11 connected by a hinge 12 and having egg pockets each with horizontally stepped wall portions 18 separated by less steeply inclined smooth wall portions 19, interengages the outer surfaces of the smooth wall portions 19, Fig. 4, of the boxes, so that the stepped wall portions 18, which support the eggs, are not deformed. Flat surfaces 20 at the top of adjacent smooth wall portions 19 have frusto-pyramidal inwards projections 21 joined by pairs of double-thickness bridges 22 to wall sections 23. The distance of the plane passing through the points of engagement of the external surfaces of the wall portions 19 of two stacked boxes from the bottoms of the egg pockets of the upper box may be such that the pocket bottoms 14 of the top box also engage the flat surfaces of the top half 10 of the box below. Vertical strengthening ribs may be provided in the smooth wall portions 19. Between each four adjacent egg pockets and around the edge of the box, interengageable cone-and-socket guide projections and recesses 26, 29, Fig. 2, 27<SP>1</SP>, 28<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, are provided. Snap-fasteners 30, 32 are formed at the edges opposite the hinge 12. As shown, the bottoms 14 of the egg pockets have reinforcing ribs 15 and the sides adjacent the pocket bottoms have vertical reinforcing ribs 17. In a modification, Figs. 7-9 (not shown), the pocket bottoms have raised circular centres (15<SP>11</SP>) with concave recesses (15<SP>1</SP>) for eggs of smaller size, and the snap fasteners have generally rectangularly cross-sectioned projections (30<SP>1</SP>) to engage in recesses (34<SP>1</SP>) with curved sides.
