A moulded pulp sheet egg tray has a plurality of egg-receiving pockets 30 (Fig. 2, not shown), with four upstanding posts 34, 46 (Fig. 3, not shown), surrounding each pocket and generally occupying the four corners of an imaginary square. The pockets 30 are formed by a plurality of hollow posts 36 extending downwardly and arranged in rows. Ribs 38 connect upwardly extending adjacent posts and encompass each pocket 30. The posts 46 extend to a height at least as great as the maximum anticipated height of eggs which the pockets are to receive while the posts 34 extend only to a height which is up to one half or twothirds the height of the posts 46 (Fig. 5, not shown). Posts are arranged such that each pocket 30 is provided with one higher post 46 and three lower posts 34 (except pockets around the outer edge 32 of the tray which have half width posts 40 of the same height as the posts 34) and are interconnected by edge ribs 42 being higher than the ribs 38, at the outer edges. Flattened flanges 40<SP>1</SP> and lugs 44 are provided as aids for de-stacking and stacking. The provision of lower posts 34 facilitates gripping and removal of eggs without interference from the higher posts 46. A box 10 (Fig. 1, not shown), of cardboard, chip-board or plastics accommodates a tray filled with eggs and comprises end walls 20 with a tuck-in flap 22 and a window 24 with a flexible transparent pane 26 in an upper wall 14. The height of side walls 18 corresponds to the height of the posts 46 which thus support the upper wall 14 and allow cartons 12 to be stacked without danger of crushing the eggs.
