An egg tray made from thermoplastic sheet material, 0À6 to 1À5 mm. thick, has frustoconical/-pyramidal protuberances and depressions (10, 11) formed along two series of ribs (12, 13) running at right angles to each other so that one tray may be stacked on another with the depressions of the uppermost tray co-operating with the protuberances of the lower tray to prevent lateral displacement, there being local ribs (24, 26) formed longitudinally along the walls of adjacent protrusions and depressions. The protuberances (10) and depressions (11) have top and bottom walls (14, 15) respectively with recessed and projected profiles (16, 17) for co-operation when trays are filled with eggs and stacked on each other with alternate trays turned through 90 degrees in their own plane. The ribs (12, 13) serve to support a tray when it is picked up by its edges, while the local ribs (24, 26) reinforce the protuberances and depressions and space the eggs from each other. Each tray is formed with a rim (30) around its periphery and with handles (18) on two opposite edges. Stacked trays of eggs are held together by one or more cords, wires or straps and are transported without further packaging. Empty trays are nested with the protuberances and depressions of one tray in line with those of the next.
