Abstract

1,241,546. Egg trays. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Oct., 1968 [15 Aug., 1967], No. 37408/67. Heading B8P. A tray, e.g. for eggs, has a peripheral skirt 5 with a stepped recess 6 and cells 2 and posts 1 which are engageable to maintain several such trays in stacked relationship, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, the upper portion of the skirt 5 may be formed with a rebate engageable with the skirt of a tray above. The trays may be square, rectangular or regular hexagonal in shape and be formed with reinforcing ribs which are semicircular in cross-section. Preferred dimensions of the reinforcing ribs and the thicknesses of the skirt 5 and the walls of the posts 1 and cells 2 are given. The tray may be made of polypropylene or polystyrene, but preferably of a copolymer formed from propylene with from 5-15% by weight of ethylene. The cells 2 and posts 1 are so arranged that one tray is stackable upon a lower like tray with the posts co-operating with the cells of the lower tray to form compartments.
