Abstract

1,180,881. Cartons. UNITED INDUSTRIAL SYNDICATE Inc., [trading as PORTLAND CO.]. 21 Feb., 1968 [31 May, 1967], No. 8422/68. Heading B8P. A moulded egg carton comprises a bottom 10 provided with a plurality of egg receiving pockets 15 arranged in parallel rows with the walls of the pockets forming a series of posts 16, a locking flap 12 hingedly connected to the front wall of the bottom, and a cover 11 hinged to the bottom and provided with a depending hollow rib structure 35 that engages the posts 11 at least when the cover is under load and divides the upper part of the carton to prevent contact of eggs on opposite sides of the rib structure. The flap 12 is provided with locking projections 30 which engage in holes 29 in the lid and with outwardly disposed projections 31, 32 which engage in recesses formed by projections 27 on the cover 11. In a modification the cover is provided with a transverse hollow rib scored so that the carton may be separated into halves.
