Abstract

1,210,081. Moulded egg cartons. UNITED INDUSTRIAL SYNDICATE Inc., [trading as PORTLAND CO.]. 30 Nov., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 54627/67. Heading B8P. A moulded egg carton having a cellular base and non-cellular lid includes a locking flap provided with at least one projection and a plurality of strengthening channels arranged to co-act respectively with an aperture and strengthening channels in an outwardly inclined front wall of the lid. As illustrated in Figs. 2 and 13 the channels 37 in each of the flap and the front lid wall define an outer set of wall portions 37A, 44A more nearly vertical than an inner set of wall portions, and projections and corresponding apertures are positioned between the channels. The channels 37 in the front lid wall terminate below the lid top and define seats 38 against which the tops of the flaps abut when the lid is in support of a load. Surfaces 42A, 43A of the flap are adapted to abut margin (41) (Fig. 6, not shown), and shelf 26 of the base. Each cell of the base is provided with a convex bottom and two projections (29) (Fig. 8, not shown) which allows a cell to accommodate different sizes of eggs. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 16) the channels in each of the flap and front lid wall define an inner set of wall portions 52A, 46A more nearly vertical than an outer set of wall portions 51A, 47.
