1409046 Stackable container GPG HOLDINGS Ltd 11 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47643/71 Heading B8P A container capable of being column stacked or brick stacked comprises vertical side walls having a top rib 7 extending upwardly from a flat shoulder 8, a horizontal goods supporting platform interconnecting the side walls at a position between and remote from their top and bottom rims, and an array of recesses 10, 11 in the bottoms of the side walls. When the containers are column stacked the top rib 7 of the lower container is closely received within an enclosure formed by bottom portions of the side walls of the upper container which itself stands with its bottom rim on the shoulder of the lower container. When the containers are brick stacked, the recesses of the upper container serve to receive and locate the top ribs 7 of lower containers. The bottom portions of the side walls and the top rib 7 may be matingly chamfered. The recesses, such as 10, 11a, Fig. 8, may each be of a width to closely receive two top ribs 7 or alternatively the recesses 11, 10a, 10b, Fig. 6, may each be of a width to closely receive a single top rib 7. The platforms may be planar or of an open framework construction or it may include an array of islands 24, Fig. 8. The container is moulded of plastics and may include partitioning walls and reinforcing ribs.
