Abstract

1,043,139. Carrying crates. T. BOX. Aug. 13, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 33084/64. Heading B8P. A plastics bottle crate (Fig. 1) has a pair of reinforcing rims 10a, 106 and 11a, 11b at the upper edges of its side and end walls respectively, outwardly projecting flanges 10c, 11c at the lower edges of the said walls and in the base 12 two sets of parallel reinforcing channels which intersect each other to provide platforms 14, each to support one container stored in the crate. Crates can be stacked one on the other (Fig. 6) with the flange 11c (and similarly 10c, not shown in Fig. 6) of one crate resting on the reinforcing rim 11a (and 10a, not shown) of the crate below. The bottom surface of the channels may be provided with ribs, flutes or otherwise roughened as shown at 20 (Fig. 6) to prevent slipping. Cross-wise stacking, with resultant stability of a considerable number of crates is facilitated by correctly situating the reinforcing channels in the base and by ensuring that the width of the gaps between the channels exceeds twice the width of the upper edges of the crates.
