Abstract
1,266,166. Nesting and stacking containers. PINCKNEY MOLDED PLASTICS Inc. 27 Aug., 1969 [29 April, 1969], No. 42643/69. Heading B8P. A nesting and stacking container comprises side walls 12, 14 each comprising a rigid vertical frame 20 of inverted U-shape and a panel 30 hinged to the top rail 22 of the frame 20 for swinging movement between a vertical stacking position and an inwardly displaced nesting position. To facilitate stacking the rail 22 has an upstanding ridge 28 positioned centrally of the container to co-operate with a corresponding groove 50 in panel 30. The panel 30 is urged towards its vertical position by means of an elongated wire spring 52 one end of which is received in a channel (60) in frame 20, the other end being embedded in the panel 30 or bearing against its inner surface. The panel 30 has an integral flange 40 which has integral hooks 46 engaging openings 48 in the container bottom to locate the panel in the vertical position, and has a tab 62 hinged at one side which when depressed abuts portion 42 of the container bottom to prevent the panel from swinging inwardly. Guide ribs 68 are provided which may cooperate with ridges 28 when stacking and which are supported on surfaces 70 and 76 when nesting. Corner tabs 65 are provided to support the ends of flanges 40. In a modification (Fig. 10, not shown), the side walls of a four-walled container may be stepped, the end walls each comprising a fixed upper portion integrally connected to the side walls and having an upstanding ridge and a panel similar to panels 30.
