Abstract
1352157 Electro-photographic image reproduction XEROX CORP 19 April 1971 [30 March 1970] 24978/71 Heading G2H An electrically insulating elastomer layer is imaged by deformation through subjection to a uniform electrostatic charge end then exposing the surface of photo-conductor contacting the layer to a pattern of light and shadow such that the layer is deformed in response to the electrostatic charges at the image gradients conforming to the pattern. The pattern is clocked by continuing the charge but reversal of the polarity of the charge will erase the image on the layer. Accordingly it is possible to produce on the layer up to thirty images per second a suitable optical imaging system being provided for this purpose. The charge may be applied to the layer through electrodes of conductive liquid or conductive gas and lasers may be used in the image projecting systems.
