Abstract
1361647 Electro-photographic processes XEROX CORP 20 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59117/71 Heading G2H A uniformly charged photo-conductor 10 is exposed to the image of an original to form an electrostatic latent image, is developed with toner of a first colour (preferably black) under the influence of an electrode held at a potential such that the first toner adheres only to the higher potential regions of the latent image and is then developed with toner of a second colour (preferably red, blue or green) under the influence of an electrode held at a potential such that the second toner adheres to the lower potential regions of the latent image. As shown, a developing roller 40 has mutually insulated segments to which different potentials can be applied by commutators 51. The roller 40 passes a toner reservoir 67, a vacuum nozzle 68 to remove toner agglomerates, a corotron 69, an electrically biased doctor roller 70, the image bearing member 10, an A.C. cleaning corotron 75 and a cleaning brush 76, appropriate potentials being applied to the segments of the roller as they pass these stations. Roller 40 applies the first toner and a similar roller applies the other toner. Exposure system Fig. 1, (not shown). An original (18) on a platen (19) is illuminated by a moving lamp assembly (20) and scanned by a lens (15), mirrors (16, 17) being positioned on respective sides of the lens.
