Abstract

1,248,945. Electro-photographic processes. RANK XEROX Ltd. Dec. 19, 1968 [Dec. 26, 1967], No.60362/68. Heading G2H. The surface of a charged electro-photographic plate is discharged in the area outside the periphery of a latent image being produced there on, so that this area does not attract toner particles during development. A frame 5 has a conductive portion 7 closely contacting a photoconductively coated sheet 4 which has been uniformly electrostatically charged before exposure. Discharge may be accelerated by connecting a source of potential 10 to the frame 5. In another embodiment in which the sheet (4) Fig. 2 (not shown) is exposed in contact with the original (1) the area outside the periphery of the image is discharged by a thin frame (5) of conductive rubber or of cloth coated with carbon. The original and sheet (4) are pressed together between a presser 8 and plate 9.
