Abstract
1374923 Stripping sheets XEROX CORP 2.5 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 3464/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] An electrostatic printing apparatus comprises an image-bearing surface 14, on which an electrostatic latent image is formed, either electrophotographically or by imagewise charging, and is developed by application of a toner, together with an electrical detector by which the presence of a copy sheet on the surface 14 can be established if one remains on the surface 14 beyond a point at which the copy sheet should have been removed with the developed image. The surface 14 may be cylindrical and revolve, and be of photoconductive material over a grounded conductive backing. If a copy sheet which has received a toner image while held on the surface 14 is not removed by air blast nozzles 24 it continues with the revolving surface to a corona discharge apparatus 27, which usually imposes an electrostatic charge on the surface and on any untransferred toner to assist removal of untransferred toner. The apparatus 27 is fed by an A.C. source 33A, biased by a D.C. source 33B so that in normal use no negative voltage appears at the terminal A, but if a copy sheet appears between the apparatus 27 and the surface 14 it interferes with the current flow from the apparatus 27 to the surface 14, and causes a portion of the A.C. profile at point A to go negative. A half wave diode rectifier 35 then causes a rectified output voltage to appear at point B and to operate a relay 42 which shuts off the printing apparatus.
