Abstract

1456544 Electrographic imaging CANON KK 22 Nov 1973 [22 Nov 1972 (2)] 54288/73 Heading G2H An electrographic process comprises forming two electrostatic latent images, to be developed in different colours, on an image-bearing member so as to have opposite polarity, the background being of substantially neutral polarity. The imagebearing member may have an electrically insulating layer, a photo-conductive layer and an electrically conductive layer, and the process may comprise the steps of (a) applying a uniform primary charge to the insulating layer (b) before, during or after step (a) exposing the layer to an image to be reproduced. (the image having a black area and another non-white coloured area) (c) uniformly applying a secondary charge of opposite polarity to said primary charge to said surface and (d) reexposing said surface to said image through a filter capable of intercepting said non-white colour. An overall light exposure may follow step (d). The surface may then be developed with a black toner and a toner of said other non-white colour. The two exposures may be conducted simultaneously with their respective charging steps by scanning an original bearing the image with two exposure slits and directing the beams 27 and 28 from these slits through caratrons 6 and 30 on to the surface 1. Subsequent overall light exposure is by means of lamp 7.
