Abstract
1,149,901. Electrostatic charge images. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 29, 1966 [April 30, 1965], No.18822/66. Headings G2H and G2J. Developable electrostatic charge images are formed on insulating surfaces by directing a flow of ions (e.g. from a corona discharge) through an ion-permeable array having an image pattern of insulating and conductive areas which modulates the ion flow in accordance with the image pattern. The array may be electrically biased and preferably comprises a conductive grid coated with a photoconductor optionally together with an insulator, the image pattern being formed by imagewise exposure. The charge image may be formed by either full frame or line-by-line techniques and developed with a conventional powder or liquid developer or by using an ion sensitive layer; the developed image may be fixed or transferred. Multi-colour images may be formed by using a grid which has been imagewise exposed through a primary colour filter, developing the charge image formed with a complementary colour developer, repeating using filters and developers of the other primary or complementary colours and optionally forming a black image. An optical system for line-by-line exposure comprises (Fig. 18) an array of truncated erecting prisms (464) each associated with a convex lens (466).
