Abstract

1352139 Laminates JOHNSON & JOHNSON 9 Sept 1971 [23 June 1970] 30499/70 Heading B5N A composite non-woven fabric comprises at least one layer of dry-laid non-woven fabric laminated to at least one layer of paper or wetlaid non-woven fabric, the or each layer of paper or wet-laid non-woven fabric having apertures in registry with the apertures in the or each layer of dry-laid non-woven fabric, the apertures of each layer being defined by fibres rearranged laterally in the plane of the layer. The paper may be crepe tissue paper, the wet-laid non- woven fabric may be made from viscose rayon fibres which are self-coherent when dried in contact with one another and the dry-laid non- woven fabric may be made from viscose rayon fibres of 1À5-3 denier and staple length ¥ inch- 2 inches or cotton fibres. The laminate may be prepared by bringing at least one tenuous drylaid web of textile fibres, e.g. carded or air-laid fibres, into face-to-face relation with at least one layer of paper or wet-laid non-woven fabric, making apertures in the layers by fluid streams, e.g. streams of water, and bonding the layers to one another by means of an adhesive preferably applied in a pattern-wise manner, e.g. using printing rollers. The paper or wet-laid non- woven fabric is preferably one wetted very rapidly by water. Specified adhesives are polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylates, styrene/butadiene copolymers, nitrile-containing copolymers, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene dichloride.
