Abstract
1393734 Infant diapers JOHNSON & JOHNSON 9 Oct 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 46438/72 Heading A5R A diaper comprises a water impervious backing sheet 12 and a porous facing layer 16, a loosely compacted fibrous batt 14 being disposed between the sheet 12 and the layer 16 and comprising a smaller batt portion 14a adhered to the backing sheet 12 and a larger area batt portion 14b adjacent the facing layer, the larger area batt portion 14b overlapping the smaller bail portion 14a art the sides 14c where it is adhered to the backing sheet 12. The smaller batt portion 14a and the sides 14c of the larger area batt portion 14b are adhered to the backing sheet 12 by spaced parallel lines 22 of adhesive. The facing layer 16 and the backing sheet 12 are wider than the batt 14 and similarly adhesively secured to one another. The backing sheet is made of polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate which may be embossed. The batt is made of cellulosic fibres less than " long and may have on the side of the smaller portion 14a adjacent the backing layer a densified compacted paper-like layer (18) formed by moistening and pressure. The facing layer comprises at least 75% fibres shorter than " long, the remaining fibres being ¢" to 2¢" long e.g. rayon or cotton fibres. The fibres are bonded by a water repellent bonding agent and then treated with an ionic sulfonated alkyl ester wetting agent.
