1346909 Electro-photographic materials ILFORD Ltd 13 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47687/71 Addition to 1051056 Headings G2C and C17C2 An electro-photographic material comprises a photo-conductive layer including as sensitizer a carbocyanine dye of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 are alkyl, Y is O or S, Z is saturated alkylene with up to 6 carbon atoms in the chain, x, y and z are the same or different and each nought or 1, and D 1 , D 2 are each the residue of a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nucleus. In an example a composition comprising zinc oxide, resin binder and 1-anhydro-bis-(3-ethyl-2-benzothiazole) # - 3 - sulphopropoxytrimethincyanine hydroxide in toluene is coated on to conductive paper. Other examples of the dyes are given and their preparation is described in the parent Specification. The photo-conductor may alternatively be polyvinyl carbazole.
