1346908 Electro-photographic materials ILFORD Ltd 13 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47686/71 Addition to 1048888 Headings G2C and C17C2 An electro-photographic material comprises a photo-conductive layer including as sensitizer a trimethincyanine dye of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 are alkyl, Y is O or S, Z is saturated alkylene with up to six carbon atoms in the chain, x and y are the same or different and are each nought or one, and D 1 , D 2 are each the residue of a five- or six-membered heterocyclic nucleus. In an example, a composition comprising zinc oxide, resin binder and 1 - anhydro - (3,3<SP>1</SP> - sulphopropyl - 2 - benzothiazole) (3 - ethyl - 2 - benzothiazole) #- methoxytrimethincyanine hydroxide in toluene is coated on to a conductive paper base. Other examples of the dyes are given and their preparation is described in the parent Specification. The photo-conductor may alternatively be polyvinyl carbazole.
